Hanging at the Co-Op Gallery

I just installed my painting "Barometer" at the Worcester County Arts Council's Co-Op Gallery in Berlin, Maryland. My chicken scratch in the corner of the painting reads:

Today's Assignment
Make a list of all the things you dislike about yourself:
1.____
2.____
3.____

When you greet this young woman in the morning, your response to the assignment is a pretty good indicator of the kind of pressure you are under and how your day will go in general. Hence the title of the painting.

New American Saints

I was noodling around with the idea of creating some images of uniquely American saints, and my sketchbook gave birth to these two angels of our democracy: Our Lady of the Holy Hand Grenade and St. Wilmington. The hand grenade symbolizes our devotion to violence. I can flip though channels in the evening and see dozens of graphic depictions of violent crime on television, but--God forbid--any nudity or foul language should hit the airwaves. And Wilmington, Delaware, is one of the credit card capitols of the nation. The city has designated separate zip codes specifically for receiving credit card payments.
