Another 30 Paintings in 30 Days

Once again I am ringing in the New Year with a 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. You may follow my progress right here or on Facebook. It kicks off tomorrow!

THE CHALLENGE:

This time I will be making a small (5 x 7 inches or 6 x 6 inches) value study each day using only titanium white and one other color (either burnt umber, burnt sienna, or ultramarine blue). I chose those colors because they are traditionally used for underpainting or making preliminary “sketches” in paint. Usually I lean heavily on color in my artwork, so this month I ask the question: can I make strong, effective images without color?

TO PURCHASE:

All paintings will be offered for sale through the end of February for $125 each, unframed. (That’s a discount of 29% from the regular $175 for this size.) Each painting will be posted on the blog with a PayPal button underneath. To purchase a painting, click the button, and you will be prompted to log in to your PayPal account or to use your credit card as a PayPal guest. If you live in Maryland, PayPal will also collect sales tax on your purchase.

SHIPPING INFO:

Within the United States I send my paintings via USPS Priority Mail with full insurance. If you are outside of the continental United States, I will calculate your shipping and email you a PayPal invoice for the international shipping costs. You are responsible for any customs fees.

EDITED TO ADD:

As per usual, I changed my mind. It's Day 15 of the challenge, and I'm removing all of the purchase links for this series of paintings.

This project is becoming a sketchbook exercise in paint for me. I have been thinking about what I'm going to do with the value studies once January is through. Some of them are finished paintings in themselves.

But many of them are preliminary drawings in which I have worked out all of the value and compositional problems and analyzed strengths and weaknesses. I am chomping at the bit to use them as stepping stones to new work. Each tiny study is a triple shot espresso.

So I'm hoarding them. If you want one, you are going to have to beg. And bake things. Sorry/not sorry.

Oh, and Happy New Year!
