Groovy Garden Gala at Annmarie

People keep asking how the Groovy Garden Gala was, and I realized that I never posted photos from the event. I was part of the entertainment at the Gala at Annmarie Garden on Friday, July 12th. I was invited to make a floral painting during the party, which will be donated and auctioned off that night to raise money to purchase native plants for the garden surrounding the arts center.

This is the most eyeliner I've ever worn in my life. Don't expect to see it again any time soon. A dozen q-tips lost their lives in the touch up process. But I'm really digging the white fingernail polish because it weirdly makes me think of White Out.

Here was the premise of the event. The gala took place during the H2O exhibition at Annmarie Garden. The painting above is "The Fury" by John Aquilino.

On the morning of the event, floral designers from Southern Maryland were invited into the gallery to create arrangements inspired by the artwork of their choice. Kathy Glockner of the St. Mary's County Garden Club created this stunning arrangement.

And seven local painters were invited to create a painting during the gala that was inspired by the floral design. The canvas they provided for me was 20 x 20 inches--SOOOO BIG for me. I chose "The Fury" and got to work. Below are some photos from the painting process and the final artwork.

Here I am with Kathy Glockner and both of our creations. She was so excited that I chose her arrangement to paint, and she purchased the final painting at auction. Thanks, Kathy!

Oh, and I got my picture in the paper!!! Thank you, Marty Madden of The Calvert Recorder. I'm so glad that Annmarie Garden invited me to participate in this event.
