Day 9: Other People's Houses

"Other People's Houses" - 5 x 7 inches, acrylic on canvas panel. (ultramarine blue, burnt umber & titanium white)

Once I had a painting instructor who did not allow us to use black paint out of the tube because mixing ultramarine blue and burnt umber made richer and more varied black. The painting lesson has stuck with me.
Information about this project is here. If you're a new visitor, I also have a fine art website and a Facebook page.

  1. I love looking at homes, and stealing a peek inside if I can. Driving by and wondering what it would be like to live on that hill, or have that view of the ocean, mountains, city. Houses are so interesting and this one is too :)

  2. Very effective using just "black" and white. There is the starkness of the winter day, yet the half-hidden house gives enough mystery to pique our interest in the narrative...nice

  3. Love the simplicity and the contrast. Nice!
